I have an undergraduate degree in English literature from Glasgow University. During my degree I spoke at conferences in African literature and women's writing, and wrote my dissertation on the genre of graphic novels, so if any of those interest you that is something we share! Before that, at school and college I gained a qualification in Critical Thinking and have studied History to A level, which always helps the understanding of English and literature. More recently I obviously studied English teaching a few years ago and have a lot of experience with learners of all abilities and with multiple barriers to learning.

I am 29 years old and have been a high school English teacher in Glasgow for 6 years, but am about to leave the country to live in Spain for a while and soak up a different culture and hopefully see some of the world! I loved my job in the classroom and will miss all the kids so much, I even have a scrap book they made me to fill in during my travels! Hopefully GoStudent will help me to create connections with the world of education, even from a distance. In terms of my hobbies and what I do in my spare time, I love the world of art and try to create it as often as possible, I regularly went to life drawing in Glasgow and would love to find a class in Spain. I am also - of course - a big reader. I try to read as much as I can and a wide range of texts, but find it hard to get the time, as we all do! I feel really strongly that literature, film, TV, and art, are all important ways of humans communicating and connecting with each other and conveying social messages around issues around inequality, which is why I loved to study them and now am passionate about teaching this to others. Through my time teaching I have helped a lot of learners achieve highly and beyond expectations, including a National 5 class of 33 with no pupils failing, and over a third getting A grades.
